Grate the soap and put in a saucepan. Add 6 cups of water and heat until the soap melts. Add the washing soda and borax and stir until it is dissolved. Remove from heat. Pour 4 cups of hot water into the bucket. Now add your soap mixture and stir. Add 1 gallon plus 6 cups of cold water and stir. Let soap sit for about 24 hours for it to gel. **You use ½ cup per load. It may take less for a HE front loader. If you have heavily soiled clothing it is suggested that you add some Oxyclean.** This soap will not be solid; it is more like the consistency of egg noodle soup, a watery gel. This soap is low sudsing; the suds are not what clean. If you want scented soap, add about ½ to 1 oz. of your favorite essential or fragrance oil. **It works out to about .01 cent per load!** |
